The wedding
In the next three chapter of “Atlas Shrugged”, the weeding
due to the marriage of Cherryl Brooks to Jim Taggart brings any different
people together. Francisco d’Anconia is there, as well as Jim’s sister Dagny
and Lillian Rearden who forced her husband to go as a present to Jim. This in
itself is interesting due to the fact that she is trying to help his reputation
by making Rearden seem to people as if he is scared of Jim. Lillian notices that
Dagny chose o wear the bracelet made of Rearden metal. This starts a conflict
between Lillian and Dagny because Lillian implies that her husband and Dagny
are having affair, after Dagny refused to give the bracelet back. This series
of events had an interesting conclusion in my opinion. The reader knows that what
Lillian claims is true, but it is to say that Rearden should have supported his
wife. He used to stand by his wife, although he has explained that he never
truly loved her, but now he stands by Dagny. This should have given it away to
Lillian right then and there. What interests me the most is the fact that
Lillian actually apologized and listened to Rearden. Another interesting topic
of conversation at the party is about money and the different opinions on how
money is a source of evil, while d’Anconia believes it is the antithesis of
evil. Rearden and Francisco have different opinions, but each have different
reasons to support them. This party intrigued me and helped me learn more about
each character present.
