During this week's reading, at the end of part two, we learn important information about John Galt. Through the story of Jeff Allen, Dagny (and the reader) finally discover the origin of the phrase "Who is John Galt?" The unearthing of this information coupled with the ambiguity of "The Destroyer" makes me wonder whether him and John Galt are one and the same. How is one man so capable of convincing others to up and quit their jobs, seemingly, for no reason whatsoever? After all, John Galt (according to Allen) swore to end the absurdity of the system and stop the motor of the world, so it makes sense that the two characters can be the same person. Now that Dagny knows that John Galt is indeed a real person and not just a name attached to the hopelessness everybody is experiencing, she is determined as ever to find him. If she finds John Galt maybe she'll find the destroyer she seeks, and maybe the destroyer is the creator of the motor she is on a quest to find. At this point, everything seems to be coming together, but Rand has a knack for pointing us in one direction just to lead us to a dead end.
