Again, the book is continuing to
further personify John Galt in different forms, first in the railroad, and now
through the description of Prometheus who has turned his back on humanity.
Prometheus being the Greek god who brought man fire and he is now turning his
back and taking everything that might have resulted from modern movement away. It
seems to be a coincidence that once the John Galt line is built in Colorado,
the important businessmen and important businesses begin to disappear, cutting
off the supply of many of the important resources from the nation. It is almost
as if the personification of John Galt has reached a form where it is actually affecting
the industry leaders. It is still unclear as to what is happening to them, some
implications seem like they are being convinced to leave by rational or
threatening means, or they are being killed off one by one, destroying their
businesses with them. In all this commotion, Dagny comes to realize that she is
working with a destroyer, which brings back the question of if one had the
power to be a god, would they be a destroyer, our would they be a creator. Apparently
whoever or whatever this John Galt personification is, they have decided to be
a destroyer. This is interesting as this book is still pushing the positives of
capitalism and its destruction by socialism, therefore, maybe John Galt, or the
series of events surrounding him, are the representation of the destruction of
the capitalist haven by a communist government or socialist policies. In other
words, John Galt represents everything that capitalists and big businesses
hate. Then there is the cigarette with a dollar sign on it, even though it
might seem insignificant, I feel that it is going to have huge implications
later on in the story. If this is the symbol of John Galt, it might be a symbol
that he feels that the only good purpose for money is to burn it for warmth, or
that money is the cancerous pleasure in society that is the cause of many of its
ills, both physically and mentally.
