The Change in Dagny Taggart (Carlye Nealon)

As I keep reading Atlas Shrugged, I get more and more addicted to it.  Once I start reading it is hard to stop because it is so good.  I feel connected to the characters and I want to keep seeing what happens to them in each and every situation.  My favorite character in the book is definitely Dagny Taggart from the start.  In the beginning of the book, we see her business side and how that is the only thing in her life.  However, while I read this week, I saw Dagny’s other side.  Dagny does have feelings and does care about things other than her job working for Taggart Transcontinental.  Dagny wants love just like every other girl in the world and we see this for the first time in chapter 7.  Ayn Rand says, “A man who existed only in her knowledge of her capacity for an emotion she had never felt, but would have given her life to experience… She twisted herself in a low, faint movement, her breasts pressed to the desk; she felt the longing in her muscles, in the nerves of her body,” (page 207).  Before this, we always thought Dagny liked being independent and alone because she was confident in everything she did.  Now, we know that Dagny is like many other girls and wants someone to lean on and someone to always be there for her when she needs more confidence or help.  I liked Dangy from the beginning, but this is when I can finally relate to her because I can finally see her emotions and what she truly feels.
