Predictability

When I first began to read the book, it was very unpredictable. I had no idea where it was going or why it was so long. As I kept reading, more and more about the characters were revealed and I began to prefer some to others. Dagny has remained my favorite, and I only have one chapter left. This is because she is a hard worker, she is self-efficient, and honestly is the only one who can get things done around the railroad. She left and everything fell apart, literally (the tunnel) forcing her to return. I must say though, the novel keeps getting more weird and predictable and I don not think I like it as much. It was predictable that Dagny and Rearden would end up sleeping together and that Francisco still loved her. I preferred Francisco to Hank, but they brought out different aspects in her. I must say I was a little shocked when they found John Galt and she finds out she is in love with him. But in my defense, we did know he was the same person that she wanted in her life as she described earlier in the novel. The one moment that I am mad about is the fact that the mystery worker was John Galt. Why else would he have been so interested in Dagny and the railroad? As we learned more and more, and once we found out John Galt was alive, it was evident it would be him. I knew Eddie would figure it out eventually, because the reader had already figured it out. When Eddie tells Dagny, he was kind of stupid in telling her not to tell anyone. He was stating the obvious; Galt is being looked for! He intercepted the radio station, society is in crisis and Washington blames him. The government is not completely wrong though. Yes, they are looters, but Galt is the one who has taken these industrialists and vanished with them. He created a little city for them, and he comes back for Dagny. But then again, Galt took them because Washington was abusing the industrialists. Hank even left, and he loved his job. So I guess I cannot say that Galt is the blame, but Washington is completely at fault. I hate not knowing for sure, and I would really like to know how they end this novel, which seems to never end.

  1. I do not think that the book is predictable I just think that they book has a classic romantic love story involved. Hank and Dagny were the two characters that understood each other so it was necessary that they ended up sleeping with each other. But I was not expecting it to happen at that moment. I thought that it would take more of a pursuit on both of their parts. Also I was not expecting for Francisco to still be in love with Dagny and I also did not expect him not to be a playboy. I was also not expecting all of the people who had vanished to all be in one place. I think that the book is getting better as I keep reading it.
