I know that this happened very soon in the reading but damn! I have to write about it! Francisco and Rearden are the greatest bromance ever!
This is honestly not what I expected to write today but I could not resist. I was going to go on about love and the pressence of darkness within the novel but this was too amazing not to talk about. I mean- my God! That was the most badass thing I had ever read (and I read Fight Club). Wow! At first I was thinking that everything was still somewhat ridiculous- yet getting more entertaining- but then- this shit started coming out of nowhere! People started dying and the book grew darker and then BAM! Tony the objectivist butterfly is shot abruptly after he came out of his cacoon. And- we all knew that Rearden was pretty badass to begin with, and yes Francisco can do anything- but WOW! This part was intense! It felt like I was watching Ayn Rand play COD!
I was actually in shock when it was Francisco who turned out to be the one who saved Rearden and blasted people's heads off. I was shocked, but honestly it really couldn't have been anyone else. This part got me excited again! It wasn't even realistic- but hey- the ending of Watchmen was ridiculous (I'm talking graphic novel not the movie) and it worked! This part was just fantastic and so unlike the rest of the book- it was weird- but oddly refreshing. Plus I was realived to see the two of them on good terms again.
I had been wondering what would happen to the two of them now that Dagny left them in the dust for some guy she had just met. I mean, these two had lost the love of their lives (and yes- I believe entirely that the two of them were truely in love with her). But the fact that this moment happened reassured me that things would be okay for the two of them. They could do this without her. It's nice to see these two be given a moment of happiness that had nothing to do with Dagny (even though I had wished she would have picked on of them instead of Galt, namely Francisco). But now- I think I'm okay with Dagny going off screwing whomever she wants to screw. The two of them will be okay and I'm happy that they have someone in their lives other than her.
